KLAUS & RENATE'S TOP 10 THINGS TO DO:

Home to pristine beaches, historic hamlets, superb wineries, excellent restaurants and an abundance of art galleries and antique shops, the North Fork offers something for everyone. Within walking distance from The Morning Glory are several white sand beaches perfect for swimming, shell and sea glass collecting, or just relaxing.

Also nearby are seaport museums, historic cemeteries and the famed Horton Lighthouse, which was commissioned by George Washington. Boating, kayaking, biking, golf, tennis and an array of other activities are all available for more active visitors, while those seeking respite and relaxation can pamper themselves in one of the area's numerous local spas.

Golfers can enjoy a challenging round of golf at one of two premiere daily fee golf properties: Island's End, a beautiful 18-hole championship course located in Greenport with full amenities (631/477-0777) and Long Island National Golf Club, a spectacular Robert Trent Jones, Jr. layout located in nearby Riverhead (631/727-4653).

No visit to The North Fork is complete without a visit to one of the area's world-renowned wineries. A favorable climate and good soil conditions combine to create exceptional wines that can be sampled during a tour of one of the numerous local vineyards. Tastings are offered year-round, with weekend wine-making festivals scheduled throughout the year. Contact the individual vineyards for more specific information (see the links at right) or contact The Morning Glory for recommendations.

Visitors can also enjoy a trip to the Foxwoods Resort Casino, located on the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Reservation in Southeastern Connecticut. The Cross-Sound Ferry landing is eight miles east of The Morning Glory at Orient Point. Take the car ferry to New London, Connecticut. From there, it is a short drive or bus ride to the Foxwoods Casino. In addition to the car ferry, Sea Jet I, a high speed passenger-only catamaran, carries 350 passengers between Orient Point and Connecticut.

A wide array of concerts, festivals and other events are held in The North Fork throughout the year, with special programs and activities staged during the festive holiday season. For more information on local events and activities, please visit the following sites.
